Where is Our 3D Mario Game?

Mario will be celebrating his 40th birthday this year! Given how his 35th birthday bash was dampened by the COVID-19 pandemic, Nintendo would want to go big for this year's momentous occasion. What better way to celebrate than with the release of a 3D Mario game for the Nintendo Switch 2, right?
It's been 7 years (yes, 7 years) since the last 3D Mario game, Super Mario Odyssey. That game was released back in 2017, the launch year for the Nintendo Switch. During that adventure, Mario was going around the world to save Princess Peach from a forced marriage with Bowser. With help from Cappy, Mario's ally that allows him to "capture" enemies and objects, the duo went through seventeen kingdoms to collect moons around the world to complete their adventure. Mario's globe-trotting trip was absolutely as fun, whimsical, and bizarre as the Super Mario series is known to be; seven years later, it's still a fantastic game.
It would be wise for Nintendo to release a new 3D Mario game this year for two reasons. One, because it's long overdue, and two, it would only make sense to release a new game for the highly anticipated (and expensive) Nintendo Switch 2, which comes out in less than two months. The Super Mario series is Nintendo's main and popular series, so it would only make sense for them to release a new 3D Mario game not long after the console's release. We already got confirmation of the new Mario Kart game, Mario Kart World; now we just need a new 3D adventure.
As I said, we are long overdue for a 3D Mario game. Surprisingly, there have only been eight 3D Mario games that have been released (not including Super Mario 3-D All-Stars and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury). The previous record for longest wait between games was the six-year gap between Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. So yes, a new release needs to come soon.
Some want to see a direct sequel to Super Mario Odyssey. Others want a brand-new 3D Mario adventure. Personally, either option works for me. As long as it's just as wonderful as all the other entries, and we get confirmation that it will come out this year, I'm game.
